Blockchain – Hype or the next real big thing?

The blockchain is one of the top emerging technologies revolutionizing today’s business models. It has created a lot of attention and hype as the technology driving the success of crypto-currencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. From a technical perspective, blockchain can be applied to many scenarios. A growing number of enterprises are investing in blockchain as a secure and transparent way to digitally track the ownership of assets across trust boundaries. Is blockchain really the next big thing or just hype around the rise of crypto-currencies? Is there proof of concept that it can create value in different industries such as financial services, manufacturing, law or retail? After a keynote by one of the top European experts Prof. Roger Wattenhofer from ETH Zurich, our panelists will discuss the main issues around the rise of this new technology and answers the questions at hand.

Nudging Reloaded – Behavioral economics & the digital transformation

Humans are imperfect beings who make decisions based on their bounded rationality. Still it is very unlikely that humans will delegate their decisions to machines in the near future. Richard Thaler has won the Nobel economics prize for his contributions to behavioral economics. He championed the concept of “nudging” people. The idea is, that a good design can help people to make better decisions. Ten years after the publication of his book „Nudge” we want to look at applied behavioral economics. Gerhard Fehr will give us a short keynote about the state of behavioral economics in times of apps and social media and together with Alexis Johann and our panelists we want to discuss the opportunities for business and society.

Media in general and especially European media is in an ambivalent situation regarding the big players from Silicon Valley.
